Sinister is a great short horror game that tackles a lot of random horror elements, that actually get you by surprise, I really enjoyed it! The sound design was really great and kept me on edge, and the Playstation 1 graphics really suit the horror genre!
Holy moly! This game was very creepy, I liked the art style & the atmosphere. The jumpscares were nice too! Here is my playthrough, with my final thoughts at the end!
Today I played this game with my facecam enabled for a change. Quite spooky in some parts as you can see by my reaction. The stairs tho seem bugged, as you can't walk straight up them.. You gotta move side to side, to get up as i noticed. Overall, Great Game. Great Work!
Liked the game as a proof of concept. Very neat art style. Think the fact that the pixelated effect obscures a lot of elements suits a horror game very well.
As for changes I'd personally make:
Ease up a little on the jumpscares. For such a short game it's mostly fine, but jumpscares get old very quickly and become more annoying in the long run. More subtle things are cool, like the bed in Monika's room moving, or the phone disappearing. That sort of thing
Beside that I'd keep the monster far out of view of the camera instead of up in your face. Like with that crooked teeth monster. She looked great during the hallway jumpscare where she was a bit further away and all pixelated. You can tell it's a person (or humanoid at least), but you can't make out details and you have to fill in the blanks yourself. That stuff tends to work very well for horror games. She looked terrible in the ending close up ^^" More goofy than anything scary, in my opinion at least. But that may also be a personal thing.
Also curious why the game is set in 1997 Pripyat as that's not mentioned anywhere or pointed at anywhere, except briefly in the intro. Does the game have anything to do with the Chernobyl disaster? Since living in Pripyat in 1997 wasn't really a thing. Is it like an alternate world where the disaster never happened? Or maybe that's something that will be expanded on later. That is definitely the main thing that stuck out to me story wise. Out of any place in the world one could pick, and any time, that seems awfully specific and strange, but nothing was done with it
I was already losing it just coming to visit, now she was not there how dare she. I really enjoy the game, I was trying to throw hands but got bodied instead.
I have a few small comments about the game: I find it a bit funny the jumpscare scene of the clown, it's scary but I find it a bit inconsistent with the game. Everything else is fine. I hope you enjoy my new video. Thanks a lot
Although I enjoyed the concept and understand this was made for a 72 hour jam, there were a few elements that left me feeling a little confused. For example, why was Pennywise in the Ukraine? Didn't Pripyat become a ghost town after the Chernobyl disaster back in the 80's, due to the high levels of radiation? Also, there didn't appear to be many puzzle elements apart from switching off the TV? Was I calling Monica on her phone when she was at the shop? Were mobiles that accessible in 1997?
If there had been more interactions with Monica to create additional tension and a few other puzzles in her apartment, I think this could go on to be a really good indie game.
Congrats on getting this completed within the allocated time at any rate - the jump scares didn't really 'get' me, but I appreciate the effort.

Thank you for making this game~ (⑅˶ᵔ ▿ ᵔ˶) ~♡
The more I think about it, maybe the Clown was Monica.
If you ever get invited to your gf apartment this can happen.
I had a lot of fun playing it! Keep up the good work!
I liked the game. I wasn't expecting that clown at that moment, I confess I almost jumped out of my chair lol

An enjoyable and fun experience, although - I have to admit, Pennywise showing up had absolutely threw me off.

Quite creepy, I like it! Would love more.
The Pennywise jump scare really got me there!
I made a video on your game (8:55)
This game was very random, and I think that made it all the more scary. The use of sounds was very good, and definitely had me screaming.
Thank you! I will definitely be checking it out.
